Lake Wenatchee to Tumwater Campground

Lake Wenatchee to Tumwater Campground Kayaking

The Upper Wenatchee River is an 18.5-mile stretch that provides incredible views while keeping you entertained all day long. This is a river that can be enjoyed year-round and for the more experienced you can expect to see the highest flows during the spring with winter runoff. You start at Lake Wenatchee State Park on a calm slow-moving section of the Wenatchee River that remains calm for 6-7 miles and then you see and feel the river speed up as you start to hit a few Class 1 riffles and some Class 2 rapids depending on the water level. At mile 10.5 you have the opportunity to exit in Plain, WA or you can continue for another 8 miles of water that contains Class 1 and Class 2 rapids until you hit Tumwater Campground. Depending on the flow, you can see Class 2+ rapids on this river. On this float, you will pass by tons of riverfront houses, towering hillsides that are lined with trees, and the occasional pull-off spot where you can pull off and take a break from the river to enjoy lunch.
